Biography engraver: Charles-Melchior Descourtis (1753-1820) was a French engraver renowned for his color aquatints in the manner of drawings. He specialized in literary and romantic subjects and helped popularize colored prints in Revolutionary and Directoire France. Biography artist: Jean-Frederic Schall (1752-1825) was a French painter and draughtsman known for his light Rococo and sentimental compositions, often with moral or narrative themes. He was closely associated with literary illustration.
