Description View to The Hague along a canal with windmill, figures and a boat / barge pulled by a horse. Crayon and tone style lithograph on wove paper (vellin). Made by Jan Weissenbruch after his own design. Printed by C.W. Mieling. This plate was added as a premium plate to ‘Hollandsche Schilder- en Letterkundig Album 1848.’ Johannes / Jan Weissenbruch (1822-1880) was one of the most famous Dutch realistic painters of mostly city scenes. He also made watercolors, lithographs and etchings. Light, shadow and atmosphere characterize his work. He was also active as a restorer and art collector. He was a cousin of Jan Hendrik Weissenbruch. His work can be found in major museums like the Rijksmuseum and Teylers. Ref: Sheet Size: c. 54 x 38.5 cm.
